School Store Lunch Specials and Salads

The NLSS Foods program will be making lunch specials on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting this Thursday. Specials will cost $5.00 and will include a drink (apple juice / orange juice / water).

September 21St – Chili Special

September 22nd – Spaghetti Special

September 27th – Lasagna Special

September 29th – Shepherd’s Pie Special

Potato and Macaroni Salads will also be prepared by the NLSS Foods program and will be a regular feature at the school store. The Foods program will be experimenting with other salads, we ask the parents and staff encourage students to try the new salads.  Last week the Foods program made bean salad, Asian salad, and coleslaw. All salads will cost $1.50.

Outside Basketball Court

The Town of Moosonee is in the process of installing an outside basketball court across the road from the front doors of NLSS. Paving is planned to take place on Tuesday of this week and students / community members are asked to not go near the courts until all work is finished.

House Challenge Event

The first House Challenge Event will take place during the last 40 minutes of school on Friday, September 23rd. Students and staff are encouraged to wear their house colour on Friday, September 23rd.

NLSS is a Scent and Peanut Free School

A reminder to all that people in our building do have allergies and will react to scents and peanuts. No peanuts or any products that may contain peanuts can be brought into NLSS. Also, all people are asked to refrain from wearing heavily scented products.

Cultural Day @ NLSS

NLSS Native Studies students are taking the lead in planning a school-wide cultural day on Thursday, September 29th. Activities taking place on this day will involve partnerships with community members and elders. Donations of wild meat (moose, goose, duck, fish) would be greatly appreciated, please call the school if you would be able to donate.

Professional Development Day

Friday, September 30th is a PD day at NLSS, there will be no school for students. NLSS staff will be participating in literacy / numeracy and assessment professional development sessions.

Semester 1 Parent / Teacher / Student Interviews

NLSS invites parents / guardians / students to attend first semester parent / teacher interviews on Tuesday, October 4th. Interview times will be from 2 pm to 4 pm in the afternoon and from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm in the evening. Progress Reports will be distributed. Moosonee and Moose Factory parents can attend either session. Students will be dismissed at 12:10 pm and transportation will be provided at that time. All are encouraged to attend, no need for an appointment – just drop by. Parents / Guardians are encouraged to bring their student with them to interview sessions. The feedback to be given is all about the student and how they are doing – what is working – and / or what needs to be worked on.

NLSS October Break is from Saturday, October 8th through to Monday, October 17th. Classes will resume on Tuesday, October 18th.
