Semester 1 Final Exams

·     Period 1 Exam Day – Wednesday, January 18, 2012

·     Period 3 Exam Day – Friday, January  20, 2012

·     Period 4 Exam Day – Monday, January 23, 2012

 

All students are required to write 30% final examinations and / or complete final culminating projects for their courses. Students must be in class all morning on exam days; this will be time for culminating activities or review time for final examination, which will begin at 1 pm.

There will be no classes for students from January 24th to January 27th.

Semester 2 classes will start on Monday, January 30th, 2012.

NLSS Christmas Bazaar

NLSS annual Christmas Bazaar will take place on Saturday, December 3, 2011, doors open at 11 am and all proceeds raised by NLSS will support a school in Africa.

 

Non-Perishable Food Items Needed for Elders’ Tea

Once again NLSS students and staff will be hosting, along with the Moosonee Native Friendship Centre, an Elders’ Tea event on Tuesday, December 6, 2011. This event is an occasion to recognize and honour our elders’. Students will be creating craft gifts, making decorations, preparing lunch / baking baked goods and running a non-perishable food drive. Parents are encouraged to support their child in bringing in items for the food drive; donations can be dropped off at the main office.

 

Christmas Holidays

NLSS Christmas holidays are from Monday, December 19, 2011 through to Monday, January 2, 2012.

Classes will resume on Tuesday, January 3, 2012.

NLSS will be officially closed for Tuesday, November 15th due to a delay in the shipping of plumbing parts needed to fix a broken water line in the school. The water source for the school cannot be turned back on until the broken line is fixed. It is anticipated that the parts will be shipped tomorrow and repairs will be completed in order for the school to re-open on Wednesday, November 16, 2011.

If this is not the case further notification will be sent out.

 

NAAAW Coffee House that was being hosted by NLSS
for Tuesday, November 15th is unfortunately cancelled.

 

NLSS Hockey program practice has also been cancelled for Tuesday, November 15th.

·         Monday, October 31st – Costume Day / Contest, Pumpkin Carving at Lunch in Cafe
·         Great Pumpkin Prize  – each time students participate in Halloween events their name will be entered in the Great Pumpkin Prize draw (NLSS hoodie plus other spooky treats)

Congratulations to All on a Fantastic Start to the 2011-2012 School Year at NLSS!

Northern Lights Secondary School has just completed the first three weeks of classes and everything is going extremely well. Thanks to all for supporting our wonderful young people.

NLSS Highlights

  • Open to All Daily Breakfast Program from 8:40 am to 9:10 am in the cafeteria
  • Student Council Store sells healthy lunch items, sandwiches are made fresh daily by Foods and Nutrition classes
  • Student Council is meeting every Wednesday at lunch, members run the Student Council Store and organize various school spirit activities
  • Lunch time intramurals happening all week: Monday –Soccer, Tuesday – Boys Basketball, Wednesday – Girls Basketball, Thursday – Badminton, Friday – Floor Hockey
  • Daily Dedicated Reading Program – supported by Library and classroom libraries– tons of great books to choose from
  • NLSS Co-ed Hockey program has started dry-land training sessions, great turnout
  • NLSS Girls Basketball players are practicing for upcoming games against DDECS
  • College Link program is up and running, partnership with Northern College
