CHM4E1            Piracy and Exploration Character Assignment

 

Overview:       

Your task is to select a character from the history of Piracy and Exploration. You will then complete a variety of tasks to communicate your understanding based on this character. For your assignment please refer to Unit 6 – Piracy All students must complete Mandatory Tasks 1 and 2. Choose ONE of the Selection Tasks.

 

Due:                All tasks are due together Thursday, Dec. 1.

 

 Mandatory Tasks:     

1) Create a One-Page Biography

-          answers the basic questions: who, what, where, why, when, how

-          must include a picture featuring your character

-          must be well laid-out, using space well, with proper formatting

-          extras: more visuals, little known facts, icons, symbols, flags, colour, other languages etc. (Be creative!)

 

2) Write a Paragraph

-          your paragraph should describe your character’s legacy, their importance, and their accomplishments (why do we study them?)

-          must have proper sentence structure, spelling and grammar

-          must include a topic sentence, a body, and a concluding sentence

-          try to pack lots of details, examples, facts, and evidence into your paragraph

 

Selection Tasks           

A) Compose a Diary Entry / Letter

-          compose a series of diary entries or write a letter to someone  that describe a significant event in your character’s life

-          must have proper sentence structure, spelling and grammar

-          must feature at least a ½ page to a page of writing

 

B) Construct a Timeline

-          construct a timeline featuring your character

-          include significant events, dates, images, drawings, other visuals that tell your character’s story

-          must be well laid-out, using space well, with proper formatting

 

C) Create an Artifact or Piece of Art

-          create an artifact or piece of art that helps communicate your understanding of your character’s life

-          must directly relate to your character

-          include a brief description explaining the meaning or significance behind your artifact or artwork

-          e.g. painting or sketch featuring Columbus’ ship Santa Maria
